Interning @ The Lab

Interns_wantedAre you interested in an unpaid but totally exciting internship opportunity at the CivicLab? Please review this web site, plus The TIF Illumination Project and the web sites showing the work of co-fonders Benjamin Sugar and Tom Tresser.

Recently we hosted:

  • a dozen service learning interns from DePaul University’s Steans Center for Community-Bases Service Learning
  • two graduate students from the Adler School of Professional Psychology
  • an intern from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest
  • researchers from the public law programs at DePaul and Loyola Unversities
  • an undergraduate map maker from DePaul’s Geography Department
  • a leadership class from Columbia College Chicago
  • a digital storytelling class from DePaul
  • researchers on public policy from the University of Chicago and Chicago State University
  • a marketing intern from Hanover College, Indiana
  • a junior from Francis Parker High School who is producing a balloon mapping workshop for teens

Projects that our interns are working on include:

  • Spreading the word  our civic workshops via social media, grassroots marketing
  • Marketing of our co-working service
  • Research for our civic investigations projects
  • Helping to produce classes and events
  • Producing podcasts and original audio content highlighting our co-workers and other civic issues
  • Research on fundraising, grant writing and resource development
  • Managing the volunteer process at the CivicLab
  • Helping with coding projects
  • Graphic design
  • Map making

We have lots of projects going on at the CivicLab that could use people with these skills and interests:

  • Graphic design, graphic visualization of data and complex concepts
  • Research, investigators, forensic accounting
  • Community organizing, outreach, grassroots community building
  • Coding, web design, data wrangling
  • GIS programming and map making
  • Citizen science, low-tech tool making
  • DIY making, construction
  • Silk screen printing, arts for social change – we are in process of setting up a silk screen press
